Abominable Snowman- A hairy human-like animal reportedly inhabiting the snows of the high Himalayan Mountains. Also called yeti.

Apparition - A supernatural manifestation of the soul of a deceased human or animal. Better known as a ghost.

Astral Projection- When the spirit travels outside of the body either to the astral plane or another location on this plane. Also known as Out of Body Experience (OBE).

Aura- An emanation of energy which surrounds all living things. Many with psychic abilities are able to see and interpret this energy. Can be viewed through the use of Kirlian photography.

Atlantis- A legendary island continent supposed to have existed west of Gibraltar and have been engulfed by the Atlantic ocean.

Automatic Writing- Phenomena in which people write without conscious thought. Many feel that it is spirits writing through the body of a living person. Parapsychologists feel that the phenomena is due to automatism.

Bermuda Triangle- A triangular area of the Atlantic Ocean bounded by Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and a point near Melbourne, Florida, in which numerous watercraft and aircraft are said to have mysteriously disappeared.

Black Magic- Magic used for evil often with the intent of injuring or killing someone. It may also be done for the personal gain of the practitioner.

Bloody Mary- A game commonly played by children, in which you go into a dark room with a mirror and chant “Bloody Mary” thirteen times. Then a ghost appears and usually tries to scratch you or kill you. But who exactly the ghost is differs on almost every version heard, most commonly though Queen Mary Tudor of England.

Cat Scratches- Another game commonly played by children in which they sit in a circle holding hands in a dark room while chanting “cat scratches”. A window in the room is left open to let in the "cat". Supposedly when they turn the lights back one or all of them have scratches on their arms. 

Chupacabra- aka “goat sucker” a creature that feeds on the blood of goats. Described as half-man, half-beast/vampire, with red eyes and a snakelike tongue, also has been described as looking like a kangaroo. 

Clairvoyant- Having the supposed power to see objects or events that cannot be perceived by the senses. 

Cryokinesis- Control over ice and sub zero temperatures.

Curse- A calling on a god or spirit to visit trouble or evil upon a person.

Cryptozoology- the search and study of animals which are only rumored to exist.

Demonic Spirit- An entity or spirit spawning from the devil that is or was of this earth. They have the capability of human possession, and the strength greater than any flesh and blood creature. Usually demonic spirits are distinguished by their dark, or black masses of psychic energy.

Doppelganger- A ghostly double of a living person, especially one that haunts its fleshly counterpart.

Dover Demon- Demon-like creature with large head, orange eyes, peach colored hairless skin, that resides in Dover, Massachusetts.

EBE- Extraterrestrial Biological Entity.

Ectoplasm- A product of psychic energy which usually forms as a fog like mist, solid white mass, or vortexes.

Electro-Magnetic Field Meter (EMF)- This tool detects the changes in the Electro-Magnetic Field. This field is around everything, from TV’s to power boxes. The normal reading for paranormal activity is between 2.0 and 8.0. Above this is usually man-made in origin.

ESP- Communication or perception by means other than the physical senses.

Guardian Angels- These are Angels who are assigned to protect all living creatures. Each person is said to have their own Guardian Angel.

Ghost- The disembodied spirit or image of a dead person appearing to be alive. Ghosts are the most common of the paranormal phenomenon. Ghosts only have enough energy to show up as orbs in photos, or to make certain personal items go missing.

Haunting- A ghost that returns to the same place and is said to haunt a home, business, or property for whatever reason. A ghost usually haunts places, not people.

Holy Water- Water that has been blessed by a member of the clergy. Holy water is said to have the ability negate negative forces.

Jersey Devil- It’s hard to explain but here is a story about it: Mrs. Leeds of Estelville New Jersey age 13 found out she was pregnant and exclaimed “I hope it’s a devil” Later it was born with a tail, wings, horns, and a horse head. She kept it sheltered for awhile and then it escaped from her. It then went around terrorizing people, over 2000’s cases of seeing it have been reported.

Kirlian Photography- The photographing of the human aura. Two Russian scientists, Semyon and Valentina Kirlian founded this process.

Karma- The doctrine of fate as the inflexible result of cause and effect; the theory of inevitable consequence. “what goes around comes around”

Lucid dreams- The ability to control what happens in your dreams.

Levitation- The rising of an object or person by no visible means.

Light as a Feather Stiff as a board- A game in which people concentrate on lifting a person only with their fingers and their mind, while repeating “Light as a feather Stiff as a Board”.

Loch Ness Monster- Creature that resembles a Plesiosaurus dinosaur; seen in the Loch ness Lake in Scotland.

Metaphysics- Derived from the Latin word meta which means beyond, metaphysics would literally mean that which is beyond the laws of physics.

Mummy- An embalmed body that is preserved, most commonly in the Egyptian fashion.

Necronomicon- The book of the dead.

Occult- The body of knowledge that is hidden or secret in the areas of the paranormal, preternatural or supernatural.

Orbs- This is the most common type of spirit energy to be captured on film. These will appear as solid or transparent "balls". They appear in many shapes and some colors, with white being the most common.

Ouija Board- Game board manufactured by the Parker Brothers company. Used to communicate with spirits. Some believe this communication is caused by the collective unconscious of the participants.

Out Of Body Experience- State in which the spirit of a person travels to the astral plane. It is said that people can in some instances travel to other locations on the physical plane. Also known as OBE, astral projection or remote viewing.

Paranormal- Beyond the normal of human or scientific explanation.

Parapsychology- Derived from the Latin word para, which means beyond, parapsychology literally means beyond psychology. It is generally defined as the scientific study of paranormal phenomena.

Phantom- An apparition or specter. Existing only as an energy form.

Planchette- The pointer instrument used with a Ouija board. It is triangular in shape with a circular window with a pin through it. 

Possession- An altered state of consciousness in which the conscious personality of the individual is replaced with that of an other personality thought of as a possessing entity.  

Poltergeist- The name of unexplained rapping’s, noises and similar disturbances. Poltergeists can break fragile items and set fire to pieces of furniture or clothing.

Premonition- Feeling or warning about a future event. This may be a vague feeling or it can be quite specific.

Psi ball- a ball of energy made by using Elemental energy.

Pyrokenesis- setting something on fire with your mind.

Psychic- A person with the ability to see, hear and feel by use of senses other than the natural senses.

Psychokinesis- mind over matter.

Rapping- This can vary from a light knocking sound to a heavy pounding. It usually emanates from the walls, but sounds as if it is coming from everywhere. Spirits sometimes communicate through rapping.

Reincarnation- A rebirth of a soul into a new body.

Ritual- A prescribed form or method for the performance of a religious, solemn ceremony. Rituals can be used for good or bad.

Sasquatch- originates with the Salish "Indians" of British Columbia and roughly translates as "wild man of the woods" aka “big foot”.

Shaman- A wizard in tribal societies who is an intermediary between the living, the dead, and the gods.

Specter- Something that exists only in appearance. Same as phantom.

Spell- A word or formula believed to have magic power. Occasionally other objects are also used in casting a spell. 

Spring-Heeled Jack- A creature/man who terrorized people in London in the 1930’s. He could jump 30 feet in the air, wore a black cloak, had pointy ears and a pointy nose, red glowing eyes, and could spit a blue flame out of his mouth.

SHC- Also known as spontaneous human combustion. Where a person starts on fire for no apparent reason.

Telekinisis- The movement of objects by scientifically inexplicable means.

Telepathy- Communication of one's mind with another by means other than the normal senses.

Vampire- A reanimated corpse that is believed to rise from the grave at night to suck the blood of sleeping people.

Voodoo- African religion which believes in seven gods and uses spells and conjuring for personal gain or to hurt others.

Werewolf- A person transformed into a wolf or capable of assuming the form of a wolf.

White Magic- Magic or incantation practiced for good purposes or as a counter to evil.

Wraith- An apparition of a living person that appears as a portent just before that person's death.

Zombie- A supernatural power or spell that according to voodoo belief can enter into and reanimate a corpse. Or a corpse revived in this way.
